Best Rose Water for Acne Prone Skin

KiKi Carr

The best rose water for acne prone skin is organic rose water. Organic rose water is free of chemicals, additives and synthetic substances. Organic rose water contains at least 95% ethically produced ingredients and in most cases, triple distilled.

Rose water has been used in beauty for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians discovered the flower has cooling and astringent properties which makes it great for healing skin ailments.

It is made by distilling water that contains rose petals and is often a byproduct of rose oil. Distilled rose water is incredibly potent. Rose water has a pH close to the skins natural pH. Thats is why it is the ideal skincare product for keeping the skin barrier strong.

It also naturally balances the oils in skin making it the perfect toner for oily skin types. Organic rose water is rejuvenating, hydrating and combats a variety of skin conditions especially acne.

Acne prone skin responds best to ingredients that are pure and gentle. The AVO Cosmetics Botanical Toner is the best organic rose water toner. It is a facial spray and treats acne prone skin by soothing irritation, moisturizing and providing antiseptic properties to the skin.

How to Use Rose Water for Acne

The best way to use rose water for acne is as a facial spray toner. The Botanical Toner is all natural, pure and organic. It helps to restore complexion and fight pimples. It is step two in the 4 step Clear Skin Kit.

Using rose water as a toner will restore the skin to it’s natural pH. After cleansing spray organic rose water on the face to hydrate the skin. Leave rose water on the skin, do not rinse. Apply moisturizer (step 3) and seal with the facial oil, step 4.

Oily skin over produces sebum and does not hold water well. Infusing moisture into the skin as often as possible will bring balance to the face.

It is a common misconception that oily acne prone skin needs to be dried out. Many people use super concentrated products too often and aggressively.

For best results, instead of attempting to pull oil out constantly, try adding more water in. Using rose water on oily skin aids in removing extra oil from your skin while hydrating it. This in turn lessens the possibility of clogging pores which causes acne.

Is Rose Water Good for Oily Skin

Yes! It is important to remember oily skin needs more hydration and moisture than other skin types to function properly. The excess oil contributes to water loss in the skin resulting in acne. Keeping oily skin properly hydrated reduces excess oil and balances sebum production evening out moisture levels in the face.

For oily skin types rose water helps to draw out the excess oil responsible for breakouts. The Botanical Toner acts an an incredible astringent balancing and restoring the skin’s pH levels naturally. It is literally the perfect product for oily acne prone skin.

Benefits of Rose Water

Although rose water is excellent for all skin types, oily skin types will benefit tremendously from the Botanical Toner. It is the perfect all natural beauty ingredient for beautiful clear skin.

Mimics the skins natural pH

The skin has a natural pH between 4.5 and 5.5. Rose water has a pH of around 5.5 making it the ideal skincare product for perfect skin health.

Balances water in the skin

Rose water absorbs excess oil helping to minimizing breakouts and add extra hydration. Hydrated skin looks plump, firm and healthy. Clear glowing skin is hydrated skin.

Calms & protects

Strong anti-inflammatory elements soothe irritation while a balanced pH helps to keep the skin barrier strong which protects the face against harmful environmental aggressors.

Hydrates and nourishes

Rose water revitalizes and moisturizes the skin. It also brightens the skin by controlling sebum production and acting as a powerful natural astringent.

Anti-aging components

Organic rose water contains antioxidants which help smooth the appearance of fine lines and combat wrinkles. It also works by shielding the skin from free radicals naturally.

Minimizes the appearance of pores

Rose water absorbs excess oil giving the skin a matte appearance minimizing the look of pore size. Pores look larger when clogged and when excess sebum is present on the skin.

Improves complexion

Rose water helps to remove dark spots and hyperpigmentation on the face by boosting collagen production, helping to increase the cell turnover rate. Rose water helps the skin look lighter by removing excess dirt and oil left behind from soap.

Does Rose Water Work on Dark Spots

Rose water naturally improves complexion by removing excess dirt and oil, leaving the skin with a fresh and radiant appearance. It is also rich in anti-oxidants known for treating pigmentation issues. When rose water is apart of your skin care routine, it does not take long for hyperpigmentation to lighten. Getting rid of acne scars can feel complicated when they don’t fade in a short amount of time.

Once that blemish is there it can take what seems like forever to leave. Hyperpigmentation can be tricky to remove but it certainly is not impossible. In addition to using rose water for dark spots it is also a good idea to wear sunblock. Sunblock works by absorbing sun rays or reflecting them. Sunblock or sunscreen will keep the dark spots from getting darker when out in the sun.

Black Owned Skincare for Dark Spots & Acne

KiKi Carr

Those of us with problematic skin have heard it all. We have heard no dairy, no fried foods, no chocolate etc. and we have tried it all. All of the acne treatments and all of the dietary changes we tried and had absolutely no luck! Because it was BAD advice. Personally, my skin didn’t clear up until I went all natural.

Although I am a licensed Esthetician I cleared my breakouts up before ever going to Esthetician school. I did it topically, without a diet change or going to a doctor. I began using simple ingredients on my skin, and it worked. Let me tell ya, getting rid of blemishes is easy when you use the right stuff.

Skin care products are fun to play in and so luxurious. But when it comes to treating a condition like acne in black skin it’s best to use products that are gentle and mild. Traditional acne treatments are aggressive. They sting and burn and can be more harmful than helpful if not used correctly.

The risk of having a bad outcome from using all natural skincare is minimal. AVO Cosmetics is a safe and healthy option thats super effective. These clean beauty products work as a system to fight stubborn blemishes and reveal beautiful glowing skin. These products are homemade, hand-packed and Black owned.

Not only will you notice less oil but you will also appear softer and smoother. Acne products tend to be very drying. That is why when healing the skin it is important to add that hydration back in. There is no need to live with acne. Don’t give up just because nothing has worked. It may be time to try an unconventional method such as a holistic treatment.

Clean beauty tends to be less harsh and more beginner friendly. When using AHA’s and BHA’s you kinda gotta know what you’re doing. They are ACIDS! Like in the real life sense, they BURN! That’s why traditional acne products are stingy. They are designed to burn acne off and dry it out.

AVO treats acne by keeping the pores clean. Acne is a bacteria. It can be killed simply by keeping the environment it thrives in clean. This is not as simple as using a face wash. All soaps aren’t effective in cleaning out pores. AVO’s Clarifying Cleanser is anti-microbial, combats oil and deep cleans the skin by detoxifying the pores.

African Black Soap doesn’t contain any synthetic ingredients and is known for its high levels of vitamin E, D, and C. Due to its high fatty acid concentration it is also excellent for moisturize and the anti-bacterial properties prevent infections lessening future break outs.

Cleansing is the first step in any skincare routine for a reason, it is most important. The proper cleanser is the key to getting rid of dark spots and pimples. The steps following cleansing aid in the healing of the skin by calming, soothing, and moisturizing the skin. Skin that is clean and hydrated heals faster and better.

Adding moisture to the skin and locking it in increases product penetration by allowing the product to be on your skin longer. The AVO Rapid Dark Spot Corrector not only seal in moisture, it also acts as a barrier and protective layer for your skin while fading dark spots.

Why All Natural

The real question is why not?! Needless to say all natural is a healthier option. In addition many products are gentle and more effective. The products are clean and simple which results in less irritation. Natural products are free of artificial additives and environmentally friendly.

The number one reason you should use all natural is you’ve tried everything else! All natural is a non traditional option that is better for your skin and your wallet. Although almost anything can be hazardous, natural and organic products are a lot safer than synthetic and more effective.

How It Works

Problems like acne scars and dark spots are caused by pimples and pimples are caused by clogged pores. Once a pore becomes clogged with dirt, oil, and dead skin bacteria grows and causes acne.

Unlike traditional acne treatments which focuses on drying out pimples or burning the skin with acids AVO treats the pore. Keeping the pore clean helps to clear skin naturally.

Most acne prone skin is oily and consistently stripping the skin of its oil won’t work. AVO combats oil by adding in more moisture. Lastly, we keep the skin free of bacteria while brightening the complexion naturally to treat dark spots.

Black Skin

The presence of melanin literally requires black skin to be treated differently. Black skin suffers from hyperpigmentation following any type of trauma. Trauma triggers the inflammation response and once that happens a bunch of melanin rushes to the spot of trauma to protect it.

Which is GREAT for healing but horrible for your bad B status. Hyperpigmentation takes forever to go away. This is why black skin should avoid extremely aggressive skin treatments and only use products with gentle ingredients and those that prevent water loss. Preventing water loss is especially important for treating acne.

AVO is proudly a black owned skincare brand specifically curated to treat pimples and dark spots in black skin. It was formulated after countless failed attempts to clear my own blemishes with synthetics ingredients.

AVO is homemade skincare. The Clear Skin Kit is an all natural acne treatment. The ingredients are simple and they work. AVO has not been tested on animals and is treats skin blemishes naturally.

Keep Oily Skin Matte All Day

KiKi Carr

Oily skin is great for looking younger, not so great if you want a matte finish. Without taking the proper prep makeup may start off looking matte but as the day goes on will get greasy looking. Preventing, avoiding and stopping shiny face makeup is a flex. Period.

The best method to keep your face from getting oily throughout the day is to start with a good skin prep. Skin care is always the first line of defense. Although it is not possible to stop oily skin all together a good skin care routine definitely makes a world of a difference.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

Good makeup always begins and ends with a solid skincare routine. There is no makeup hack that can or will replace a proper skincare regimen. Target has excellent skin care for black skin. These products are extremely affordable and will help control oil all day.

Wash with a Hydrating Cleanser

Oily skin lacks sufficient moisture and over produces oil. It is important to not attempt to constantly strip the skin of excess oil but to add in more moisture. Using a hydrating cleanser like Cerave will help bring balance to the skin. This cleanser is not stripping and leaves the skin feeling light and fresh.

Tone with Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is the best toner for oily skin because it is pore constricting. Oily skin has larger pores. By constricting the opening of the pore less oil can get through to the surface of the skin. Witch hazel is all natural and has been used for centuries in skin care. Thayer’s is purified and will leave the skin visibly smoother.

Moisturize with an Oil Free Moisturizer

Oil is good for oily skin, not all but some. I recommend everyone use a face oil but they are especially helpful for oily skin and acne prone. Obviously using oil when going for the matte look is not the move. The Cerave Cream Moisturizer is perfect for anyone who wants a matte look.

It is not possible to completely stop our skin from producing oil. Constantly stripping the skin of its oil will cause the skin to produce more oil, increasing the chances of a break out. With the proper skin prep it is possible to stay matte throughout the day.

Natural Hyperpigmentation Treatments

KiKi Carr

When we hear “all natural” we automatically assume safe. I hate to state the obvious but natural does not always mean safe just as chemical does not always mean unsafe.

Chemical exfoliates are all natural hyperpigmentation and dark spot treatments. Mandelic acid is derived from almonds, Glycolic acid sugarcane, Lactic acid milk and enzymes are derived from fruits.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

But I’m not gonna sit up here and act like I don’t know what you mean when you say “natural skincare”. You mean products that are not toxic, artificial, synthetic or contain harmful ingredients. I think we all expect our skin care to be safe for use, natural claims or not.

These days it is easy to find skin care that is cruelty free, vegan, natural or organic. Glow Recipe and Herbivore are examples of clean skin care brands. AVO Cosmetics is another all natural skincare brand.

AVO Cosmetics is homemade skin care for black skin and was developed by a black woman, me! The Clear Skin Kit is ideal for oily skin, acne, hyperpigmentation, and textured skin. The Rapid Dark Spot Corrector helps reduce the appearance of blemishes and promotes an even complexion.

Physical Exfoliators

If you want to completely avoid ingredients all together you can use a physical exfoliate. Keep in mind with physical exfoliates you control the pressure and it is important to handle facial skin with care.

Although scrubs contain ingredients they are also considered a physical exfoliate.

Province Apothecary Daily Dry Brush

Hangsun Rotating Cleansing Brush

Evridwear Exfoliating Nylon Gloves

Chemical Exfoliates

Chemical exfoliates come in two forms, enzymes and acids. Both are incorporated in soaps, lotions, serums, masks, toners, and more.

  • Enzymes
    • Dissolve dead skin only.
  • AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)
    • Resurfaces all skin.

No matter if physical or chemical, exfoliation is an amazing and all natural way to achieve clear skin and an even skin tone. It is also the fastest way to remove dark spots.

Glow Recipe Guava Vitamin Dark Spot C Serum

Teami Matcha Green Tea Facial Scrub

Herbivore AHA Prism Exfoliating Serum

Hyperpigmentation Ingredients

Oily skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation. Oily skin often causes acne and acne leave blemishes. Removing acne scars takes time but it can be done. Here is a list of ingredients that fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

  • Vitamin C
  • Pineapple
  • Licorice Root
  • Kojic Acid
  • Mandelic Acid
  • Azelaic Acid
  • Black Soap

Although Glycolic and Lactic acid aren’t fading ingredients they are awesome treatments for hyperpigmentation. Glycolic acid is extremely universal! It helps correct many different skin conditions. Lactic acid resurfaces the outermost layer of skin which removes acne scars as oppose to fade them.

All natural treatments for dark spots can be physical or chemical. It is important to remember NOT to over exfoliate. Over exfoliation will lead to skin irritation and possibly more scarring. Exfoliation should be limited to 1 to 2 times a week, up to 3 times for oily skin and acne prone.

STEP 1 – Cleanse

Always start your skin care routine with a gentle cleanser. Cleansers are designed to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. No need to be aggressive during the very first step.

STEP 2 – Tone

Exfoliation for Black Skin, Let’s Talk About It

KiKi Carr

Exfoliation is the ONLY step in any skin care routine that keeps the skin looking youthful, bright and CLEAR! There is no other step in a skin care routine that can or WILL provide the benefits of exfoliation.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

What is Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin. Dead skin often gets stuck to our skin because of sweat and oil. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin, facilitate new cell growth, aids in the prevention of clogged pores, increases skin respiration and enhances nerve stimulation.

Types of Exfoliation

There are two types of exfoliation, chemical and physical. However, there are multiple kinds of exfoliators.

Chemical

  • Acids
    • AHA
    • BHA
  • Enzymes

Chemical exfoliates are everywhere! They are in soaps, moisturizers, serums, masks, omg I can go on and on but you get the point. A chemical exfoliate dissolves dead skin. Acids are more aggressive than enzymes. Acids resurface all skin while enzymes only target dead skin.

Physical

  • Scrubs
  • Brushes
    • Wet or dry

Benefits of Exfoliation

The most common benefits of exfoliation are:

  • Faster product penetration
  • Deep pore cleansing
  • Removes dead skin
  • Smoothes and softens
  • Increases moisture retention
  • Evens skin tone

Can I Exfoliate with Acne?

Not only can you add exfoliation to your skincare routine, but you actually should! Exfoliating oily acne prone skin helps treat and prevent break outs. Regular exfoliation will brighten your complexion, keep the pores from becoming clogged, increase product penetration and treat hyperpigmentation.

Exfoliation is essential for clear skin. Exfoliating too often will compromise the skin barrier. Over exfoliation will result in complications such as redness, water loss, and other irritating skin conditions.

These days everyone wants a flawless makeup application. We have all seen the cakey makeup, the unblended makeup, the mismatched makeup and we are tired. The goal is to look better not worse. Every summer social media is filled with pictures of women and men sporting the “glowy” look. Well that glow is glass skin. No, they were not born with it and no it isn’t just highlighter. It is likely that during the spring those brilliant babes ditched the winter skin care routine for a spring skin care routine.

Other than increasing your water intake the key to glass skin is exfoliation and hydration. Exfoliation removes dead skin which reveals a brighter complexion and assist with product penetration. Glass skin is recognized by its ultra smooth and dewy finish. Hydration is essential to achieving this look. When the skin is hydrated it is looks smoother, plump, and luminous.

Spring is the perfect time to implement the new! Spring weather is still cool enough to use chemical exfoliates yet warm enough to rock a bronzed complexion. Implementing a new skincare routine during the spring will give your skin enough time to adjust to the weather and product changes.

Why Is Glass Skin So Popular?

Glass skin is in because looking overly done is CANCELLED! Women want to take care of their skin, and not feel the need to hid behind makeup. We don’t care to look “beat” anymore. Our new goal is for our skin to look bouncy and fresh.

Can Oily Acne Prone Achieve Glass Skin?

Absolutely! Glass skin can be achieved by any skin type. It’s all about having healthy happy skin that looks radiant. Oily skin has a natural dew. By keeping the dead skin away break outs will lessen and your skin will become smoother and clearer over time.

How To Get Glowing Skin

First thing, it ain’t ALL skin. Amazing skin care products are crucial to glowing skin, however the truth is they will only take you so far. Skin is imperfect, naturally. Skin is not all one even tone. The trick to having perfect looking skin is a sheer makeup application.

3 Skin Tips For Glowing Skin

Keep it Light

In the winter it is ok to use thicker heavier cosmetics but for the summer and spring they aren’t necessary. With the increased humidity we can keep it light. The Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Skin Tint will give you the perfect amount of blur for the glass skin look.

Exfoliate

The best way to get glowing is to remove dead skin. Dead skin causes our complexions to look dull. An excellent way to remove dead skin is with an enzyme. The Josie Maran Pineapple Enzyme 2-N-1 Cleanser helps to dissolve dead skin while hydrating and smoothing.

Mind Your Eyes

Spring is the most prevalent allergy season. A common allergy symptom is puffy eyes. Stay ahead of the curve with an eye mask. Swelling can be treated with coolness. The Estee Lauder Eye Mask has a cooling effect that will leave your eyes feeling calmed and soothed. Store in a cosmetic fridge for extra effectiveness.
