So let’s dive into a very basic way to care for, style, and maintain short 4c natural hair at home. I am NOT an expert nor a cosmetologist. I do makeup & skin, not hair. Just thought I would share the ways I manage my own hair at home. Everyday both men and women compliment me on my hairstyle and ask, “how’d you get it like that?”

My TWA regimen is once a week. Dedicating one day to beauty allows me to consistently care for myself and my hair routinely. Weekly deep conditioning treatments helps keep 4c hair moisturized and curls ready to define. The only draw back is it can be time consuming. When pressed for time you can always reach for a good ole hair mask.

This one by Eva-NYC is awesome! It doesn’t require heat and you only have to leave it on for about 5 mins. This mask is super convenient, easy to use and leaves the hair so soft. Great for days you don’t have time to deep condition or just dont feel like it.

A very common misconception I see in the natural hair community is people feel as tho their curls have no definition. This simply is not true. Black people’s hair is naturally curly. And there are TONS of ways and products used to define curls and enhance natural curl patterns. Puddings, cremes, and mousses as well as curl methods such as shingling, finger coiling and wash & go’s.

All of the techniques and products work to define curls on short natural hair. You just have to find which method and product combo works best for you and your hair. I have found the best way to make my hair curly is with water and gel. Water and gel have curls defined, popping, and juicy looking.

I made a list of hair stuff I use. You can view it on Amazon. The brushes, leave in conditioners, and hair gels are my go to items for super defined curls and healthy looking hair. Cuz you know natural hair can look very dry, even when its NOT!

Once a week deep condition your hair or use a hair mask. When you deep condition you have to sit under the hair dryer of course but with the hair mask you don’t have to. After rinsing your hair treatment out, apply a leave in and allow it to absorb for a little bit.

After about 30 minutes or so you can begin to style your hair with gel. For a nice soft shiny hold apply the World of Curls first then the styling gel. Use a small detangling brush to distribute the product better and to help separate and clump the curls.

Sometimes we want a firm hold, in that case you can use a mousse instead of gel or in conjunction with the gel. It won’t hurt. Using a little bit of each product will help cut down on flaking and product build up. Wash day becomes a breeze when you have the right products and tools.
