All Natural Skincare Routine for 40s

KiKi Carr

Let’s start with the fact there is no concrete skin routine. It’s ok to use staple products that you know work for you. And it’s definitely great to regularly use things proven to work for you. However most of the time, does not mean all of the time. It’s important to constantly tailor our skin routine to suit the current needs of our skin.

It is very necessary to have a cleanser ideal for your skin type and secondly one that addresses your skins concerns. A good routine should have a cleanser, toner and a moisturizer. Some additional steps or products to use for mature skin are sunblocks, facial oils, serums, and facial masks.

Natural skin care is an excellent choice when choosing products for a go to skin routine. Natural skincare is gentle enough to use everyday and powerful enough to deliver fast results.

The Clear Skin Kit is a 4-step system ideal for oily skin types looking to take care of their face naturally at home. It works by keeping the pores clean and moisture locked in. It includes a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and facial oil.

This 4-step system leaves the skin radiant by combating dark spots. Your skin will feel nourished and look more hydrated. Getting clear glowy skin has never been easier with this 4 step system. The products are packed with potent ingredients that starts to work immediately for fast results.

40s skincare routine

Step 1: Clarifying Cleanser

Cleansing is the most important step in the skin routine. The AVO Cosmetics Clarifying Cleanser is a black soap. African black soap defeats wrinkles naturally. It contains natural oils rich in antioxidants and fatty acids that nourish and moisturize the skin. African black soap helps improve texture by naturally exfoliating the skin and detoxifying the pores. Both exfoliation and pore clarity help tighten skin.

Step 2: Botanical Toner

The AVO Cosmetics Botanical Toner contains antioxidants which help smooth the appearance of fine lines and combat wrinkles. It also works by shielding the skin from free radicals naturally. Hydration is essential to achieving younger looking skin. Rose water hydrates and revitalizes aging skin naturally. It also brightens the skin by controlling sebum production and acts as a powerful all natural astringent.

Step 3: Restorative Face Cream

The AVO Cosmetics Restorative Face Cream moisturizes and helps to heal skin with lavender and tea tree. It is calming and anti-septic. Lavender is rich in antioxidants which reduce the appearance of aging skin. It helps the skin to look young, fresh, and vibrant. The Restorative Face Cream is easily absorbed, and won’t leave an oily residue. It’s literally the perfect moisturizer for day and night.

Step 4: Rapid Dark Spot Corrector

Reversing the signs of aging naturally is done by locking in moisture. Adding moisture to the skin and locking it in increases product penetration. The skin has time to benefit from the products when they are sealed in with a face oil. The products are able to be on your skin longer. The AVO Rapid Dark Spot Corrector not only seals in moisture, but it also acts as a barrier and protective layer for your skin while fading hyperpigmentation.

Vitamin C in an anti-aging skincare routine can help stimulate collagen production. Increasing collagen results in a more youthful and radiant complexion. Vitamin C is highly respected for its anti-aging benefits and ability to transform dullness overnight. Whether you’re dealing with acne scars or sun damage, vitamin C will do wonders for your skin.

Sunblock is also an important skincare ingredient, especially when using Vitamin C. Sun exposure is the number one cause of pre-mature aging. Studies show that 90% of wrinkles are caused by the sun while only 10% are attributed to aging. Prolonged exposure to the sun without protection can cause the skin to burn, peel, and age prematurely.

How can I even out my skin tone in my 40s?

The best way to even out your skin tone naturally is to use ingredients like rose water, vitamin C, and lavender. The AVO Cosmetics Clear Skin Kit contains all of those essential additives for naturally clear skin.

Rose water helps remove dark spots and hyperpigmentation on the face by boosting collagen production and helping increase the cell turnover rate. Rose water helps the skin look lighter and brighter by removing excess dirt and oil left behind from soap.

Vitamin C helps to slow aging, prevent sun damage, and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and acne. It is most effective at penetrating the skin barrier. It’s rejuvenating, boost collagen and helps to hydrate the skin.

Lavender is a magnificent ingredient for fighting the signs of aging. It delivers nutrients necessary for increased oxygenation and cellular regeneration.

The Clear Skin Kit is a natural treatment for aging and oily skin. It keeps dead skin at bay for a clear and bright appearance as well as adding hydration for plumping. AVO is homemade and hand packed. The all natural ingredients are simple and effective.

How can I take care of my skin after 40 naturally?

Monthly at home facials are imperative to taking care of your skin in your 40s and beyond. A home regimen is crucial for healthy and beautiful looking skin. Facials are done once a month and intended to target specific concerns more aggressively. Being that facials are only performed once a month, a solid skin care routine is the only way to get and keep clear skin.

This 4 step system leaves skin radiant by keeping the pores clean and combating signs of aging. Your skin will feel nourished and look more hydrated. Getting clear glowy skin has never been easier. How to get glass skin in 40s?

Other than increasing your water intake the best way to get glowing skin naturally is to exfoliate. Exfoliation removes dead skin revealing a brighter complexion and assist with product penetration. Glass skin is recognized by its ultra smooth and dewy finish.

all natural anti aging skincare

Exfoliation is the ONLY step in any skin care routine that keeps the skin looking youthful, bright and CLEAR! There is no other step in a skin care routine that can or WILL provide the benefits of exfoliation.

The clarifying cleanser exfoliates naturally and the restorative face cream adds the moisture needed to keep the skin looking hydrated, smooth, plump, and luminous.

What should your skincare routine be at 40?

The best way to stop skin from looking old is to keep dead skin off and moisture in. The Clear Skin Kit keeps the skin exfoliated, hydrated, pH balanced, and moisturized.

Another thing to do is to use products like vitamin c. Vitamin C revives dull looking skin. It brightens and fades dark spots naturally. Vitamin C is essential to the production of collagen in skin cells, which is crucial for maintaining skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Natural skin care products offer a pure, safe and effective option for skin care. They are formulated with clean ingredients that nourish the skin. The skin thrives when it is fed minerals, vitamins, proteins, antioxidants and fatty acids topically.

The AVO Cosmetics Clear Skin Kit is homemade and formulated specifically for oily skin. This 4 step system is designed to take the guess work out of what products to use, in what order, and when. The kit includes a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and facial oil. Everything needed to get and keep clear glowing skin.

Black Owned Skincare for Dark Spots & Acne

KiKi Carr

Those of us with problematic skin have heard it all. We have heard no dairy, no fried foods, no chocolate etc. and we have tried it all. All of the acne treatments and all of the dietary changes we tried and had absolutely no luck! Because it was BAD advice. Personally, my skin didn’t clear up until I went all natural.

Although I am a licensed Esthetician I cleared my breakouts up before ever going to Esthetician school. I did it topically, without a diet change or going to a doctor. I began using simple ingredients on my skin, and it worked. Let me tell ya, getting rid of blemishes is easy when you use the right stuff.

Skin care products are fun to play in and so luxurious. But when it comes to treating a condition like acne in black skin it’s best to use products that are gentle and mild. Traditional acne treatments are aggressive. They sting and burn and can be more harmful than helpful if not used correctly.

The risk of having a bad outcome from using all natural skincare is minimal. AVO Cosmetics is a safe and healthy option thats super effective. These clean beauty products work as a system to fight stubborn blemishes and reveal beautiful glowing skin. These products are homemade, hand-packed and Black owned.

The Clear Skin Kit treats hyperpigmentation, pimples, acne, dark spots, texture, black heads, and acne scars naturally. It is truly the best way to get clear skin at home. The guess work has been taken out of when and what to use. The Clear Skin Kit makes skincare routines for oily skin and acne prone quick and easy.

This 4 step system leaves skin radiant by keeping the pores clean and combating dark spots while treating and preventing breakouts. Your skin will feel nourished and look more hydrated. Getting clear glowy skin has never been easier. The products are packed with powerful ingredients gentle enough to use everyday and you will start to see results immediately.

Not only will you notice less oil but you will also appear softer and smoother. Acne products tend to be very drying. That is why when healing the skin it is important to add that hydration back in. There is no need to live with acne. Don’t give up just because nothing has worked. It may be time to try an unconventional method such as a holistic treatment.

Clean beauty tends to be less harsh and more beginner friendly. When using AHA’s and BHA’s you kinda gotta know what you’re doing. They are ACIDS! Like in the real life sense, they BURN! That’s why traditional acne products are stingy. They are designed to burn acne off and dry it out.

AVO treats acne by keeping the pores clean. Acne is a bacteria. It can be killed simply by keeping the environment it thrives in clean. This is not as simple as using a face wash. All soaps aren’t effective in cleaning out pores. AVO’s Clarifying Cleanser is anti-microbial, combats oil and deep cleans the skin by detoxifying the pores.

African Black Soap doesn’t contain any synthetic ingredients and is known for its high levels of vitamin E, D, and C. Due to its high fatty acid concentration it is also excellent for moisturize and the anti-bacterial properties prevent infections lessening future break outs.

Cleansing is the first step in any skincare routine for a reason, it is most important. The proper cleanser is the key to getting rid of dark spots and pimples. The steps following cleansing aid in the healing of the skin by calming, soothing, and moisturizing the skin. Skin that is clean and hydrated heals faster and better.

Adding moisture to the skin and locking it in increases product penetration by allowing the product to be on your skin longer. The AVO Rapid Dark Spot Corrector not only seal in moisture, it also acts as a barrier and protective layer for your skin while fading dark spots.

The Clear Skin Kit is beginner friendly and the best option for oily skin types that are acne prone looking to clear skin naturally at home. You won’t have to see a doctor, there won’t be any confusion as to what to use and when and it does not burn like traditional acne treatments.

AVO Cosmetics is the best Black Skin Care for dark spots, acne, and hyperpigmentation. When it comes to Black skin acne treatments all natural is the way to go. The treatments are gentle enough for daily use and potent enough to yield quick results. The Clear Skin Kit will have your skin clear and glowing.

How To Make Short 4C Hair Curly

KiKi Carr

Hairstyles for Short Natural Hair is a big topic in the curly girl community. Opting for a tapered cut is a safe way to go. The shape is cute, it frames the face and is fairly simple to maintain. Black women are the fastest growing college grads and entrepreneurs in America. With our busy lifestyles its obvious to see why we want and need quick easy ways to style our hair at home.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

So let’s dive into a very basic way to care for, style, and maintain short 4c natural hair at home. I am NOT an expert nor a cosmetologist. I do makeup & skin, not hair. Just thought I would share the ways I manage my own hair at home. Everyday both men and women compliment me on my hairstyle and ask, “how’d you get it like that?”

My TWA regimen is once a week. Dedicating one day to beauty allows me to consistently care for myself and my hair routinely. Weekly deep conditioning treatments helps keep 4c hair moisturized and curls ready to define. The only draw back is it can be time consuming. When pressed for time you can always reach for a good ole hair mask.

This one by Eva-NYC is awesome! It doesn’t require heat and you only have to leave it on for about 5 mins. This mask is super convenient, easy to use and leaves the hair so soft. Great for days you don’t have time to deep condition or just dont feel like it.

All of my hair stuff is available on Amazon!

A very common misconception I see in the natural hair community is people feel as tho their curls have no definition. This simply is not true. Black people’s hair is naturally curly. And there are TONS of ways and products used to define curls and enhance natural curl patterns. Puddings, cremes, and mousses as well as curl methods such as shingling, finger coiling and wash & go’s.

All of the techniques and products work to define curls on short natural hair. You just have to find which method and product combo works best for you and your hair. I have found the best way to make my hair curly is with water and gel. Water and gel have curls defined, popping, and juicy looking.

I made a list of hair stuff I use. You can view it on Amazon. The brushes, leave in conditioners, and hair gels are my go to items for super defined curls and healthy looking hair. Cuz you know natural hair can look very dry, even when its NOT!

Once a week deep condition your hair or use a hair mask. When you deep condition you have to sit under the hair dryer of course but with the hair mask you don’t have to. After rinsing your hair treatment out, apply a leave in and allow it to absorb for a little bit.

After about 30 minutes or so you can begin to style your hair with gel. For a nice soft shiny hold apply the World of Curls first then the styling gel. Use a small detangling brush to distribute the product better and to help separate and clump the curls.

Sometimes we want a firm hold, in that case you can use a mousse instead of gel or in conjunction with the gel. It won’t hurt. Using a little bit of each product will help cut down on flaking and product build up. Wash day becomes a breeze when you have the right products and tools. The best products to pop curls on 4c natural hair can be found on Amazon.

11 Best Oily Skin Primers

KiKi Carr

The most popular questions about makeup primers for oily skin are “Is primer really necessary?”, “Does primer stop oily skin?”, and “Which is the best primer for oily skin?”

Well, it depends. Some makeup artist swear by it and feel it is necessary and alot of people don’t feel like it’s necessary at all. Then there are those who can take it or leave it. But nothing will ever stop you from having oily skin genetics. And the best primers for oily skin are mattifying.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

Matte primers help to control oil while smoothing and minimizing the appearance of pores. They combat shine and grip foundation so that it stays in place all day.

Matte primers are oil free and people love them because they not only help the makeup last longer, but they also blur texture, fill fine lines, and reduces the look of pores. Primers hide imperfections and are hidden gems for achieving that flawless looking finish.

What Is Primer Makeup

Makeup primer has two functions, one to protect skin with makeup by forming a barrier between the skin and foundation. The second main function is to grip complexion products. Primer helps foundation last longer throughout the day.

Primer should be used in conjunction with complexion products. It’s not skincare and does not replace your serums, moisturizers, or any of the other products in your skincare routine. Primer is safe to use everyday and although it can be applied to your entire face the best practice is to use it where needed most, like the T zone.

Choosing a Primer

There are many different kinds of primers i.e. cream, liquid, gel, etc. and there are many different types of primers. The type of primer will give you the benefit, i.e. hydrating, pore minimizing, matte, etc. To choose the right primer type first base it off of your skin needs. For example, oily skin should use primers that are oil absorbing or mattifying.

After putting your skins need first then and only then should you consider your desired finish. And FYI, all skin types can use hydration. Any day all day 7 days a week. Most people gravitate towards primers because they want a blurred finish and they want to diminish the look of pores.

Types of Primers

Mineral Based Primers

Pore Minimizing Primer

Silicone Based Primers

Water Based Primers

Oil Absorbing Primers

Hydrating Primers

Mattifying Primer

Protective Primer

Primer Vs No Primer

Ahhh the great debate! Well let’s say this, foundation can absolutely go directly against the skin. Primers were designed to compliment foundation. So no, primer is not necessary. But they really do work as a great foundation base.

Most primers can be used with liquid or powder foundation. As with anything there are pros and cons to using primer.

Primer Benefits

  • Best way to control oily face makeup
  • Has added skincare
  • Not harmful for your skin

Primer Disadvantages

  • Requires research to choose the right one
  • Extra step

What Order To Apply Primer?

Primer goes on after your skincare. Your serum, moisturizer and sunscreen should all be applied before your makeup primer. Although a lot of primers have amazing skin loving ingredients, those are added benefits. Products specifically designed to care for skin should be applied before makeup primer.

How to Apply Primer, Foundation and Concealer

Unlike skincare, makeup is meant to sit on top of the skin. It is completely pointless to use things your skin will love if it’s not on your face long enough to do anything. Before applying makeup always give your skincare time to absorb. Apply makeup after your skin care has been on for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 1

Apply primer to the entire face. If you have super oily skin set the primer with a thin layer of translucent powder. This will help keep the shine away longer. Be careful not to over due the powder so that your foundation doesn’t look patchy.

Step 2

Apply foundation or concealer. If you plan on wearing both foundation and concealer you can apply either or first. As a makeup artist for over 30 years I use concealer alone, to color correct and to highlight.

Concealer that matches your skin tone can be worn alone or under your foundation. The only time concealer should be used on top of foundation, no exceptions, is when you are using it to highlight.

Pro Tip: Tap concealer in with your fingers for a more natural look.

How To Use Primer for Large Pores

Oily skin types typically have larger pores. And when the face is shiny the pores are much more visible. The absolute best way to hide pores with makeup primer is to use a mattifying primer or double prime. When double priming use pore minimizing primer that is light-weight and oil free.

The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer fits the bill. This silicone based primer helps to fill pores and keeps skin looking matte. This primer has added skin bonuses like Vitamin A which is excellent for acne and Vitamin E for nourishment. Both Vitamin A and E keep the skin youthful looking and healthy.

The first step is to evenly apply the makeup primer. Next apply the foundation, concealer or both. After your base (foundation / concealer) is on, use your fingers to tap a small amount of primer onto any shiny areas of your face.

Remember matte skin makes pores appear less visible.

If double priming sounds like a lot you can always use one primer with a full coverage foundation and a blurring technique. The technique involves using a flat top kabuki brush and buffing the foundation into the skin rapidly and firmly.

This technique is good for small problematic areas. If you try to do this all over your entire face you run the risk of looking cakey.

Once the foundation has been buffed into the skin add a light layer of translucent setting powder to seal the deal.

Best Primer for Large Pores

Best Fake Eyelashes For Beginners | A Complete Guide

KiKi Carr

The best fake eyelashes for beginners are 3D mink lashes. Particularly Siberian hair minks. The 3D effect makes the minks look natural and the band is firm yet flexible making them easy to apply and durable.

Minks are soft, reusable, fluffy, lightweight and can be worn everyday. They vary in length from short 12mm to long 25mm.

Items are shipped via USPS priority. Orders are processed within 72 hours of receipt. All sales are final.

Minks typically cost between 15 and 25 dollars. The difference between mink lashes and synthetic lashes is that minks last longer.

Synthetic lashes are meant for single use but you can probably get at least 3 uses out of them if you are very gentle.

Mink lash strips on the other hand have up to 25 wears. Minks mimic real hair in texture and appearance unlike synthetic lashes which have a shiny appearance.

mink lash

A mink lash is the secret weapon to looking more beautiful and awake with less effort. It’s much quicker to pop a lash than it is to apply several coats of mascara.

And with all of the different lash styles almost any look can be achieved. Rather you want sexy, subtle, or glamorous there’s a lash for that!

How To Put On Fake Eyelashes

If you have long full lashes already you can add a coat of mascara but if not just add it after the lash is already on. For my makeup lovers go ahead and beat your face.

You don’t want to get make in or on the lash so always apply your lashes after putting on makeup. But honestly, a flirty lash is an “eyeshadow” hack. Lashes are instant eye looks.

The Blessed Lash

Mink lashes can easily be applied with your fingers but its a good idea to use a lash tool. Instead of peeling the lash off from the side, release it from the tray by sliding it down with your thumb.

Once you have the lash take a little time to customize it to your eye shape by trimming off any part of the outer corner that extends past your natural lash.

So that the lash isn’t blunt but actually follows the diagonal of the natural lash line be sure to trim the lash on an angle. Now you are ready to apply!

PRO TIP: Applying the lash too close to the inner corner will cause irritation. Your eye may itch and tear which will cause the lash to lift.

makeup for black women

Step 1

Start by holding the lash in the middle near the lash band.

Step 2

While looking down into a mirror sit the lash down right above your natural lash.

Step 3

Make sure the band adhere’s to your eyelid.

Step 4

Press the middle of the lash against your skin first, then attach the outer corner and lastly the inner corner.

Step 5

Pinch the false lash together with your lash using your fingers or the lash tool.

Step 6

Tight-line your upper lash line with a black eyeliner.

Step 7

Use mascara to blend your lashes with the falsie.

Best Glue For False Eyelashes

There are so many different eyelash glues for strip lashes these days. There is waterproof glue, instant bond, Vitamin enriched, lash glue pens, wands and the list goes on and on. Out of all the choices the best glue for false eyelashes is a latex glue.

best false eyelash glue

Latex glue is definitely beginner friendly and has a strong hold. The Sassy eyelash glue is super easy to use, fast drying and budget friendly. Of course if you have an allergy to latex there are great latex free options as well.

PRO TIP: Give the glue about 30 seconds to dry before applying the lash. This helps the glue get tacky and stick quickly.

How Long Do Mink Lashes Last?

The standard for a mink lash is up to 25 wears but I get much more use out of my mink lashes. Last year I wore the my favorite pair the entire summer!

Mink lashes can last for months if they are cleaned and stored after each use. Avoid using mascara on the lash and keep them dry. If the lash gets wet it won’t fall apart but it will lose the curl and 3D effect.

How To Take Care of Mink Lashes

When removing the lash tightly grab the outer corner and gently begin lifting the lash. Use an alcohol soaked Q tip and pat it on the glue. The alcohol will immediately begin to dissolve the glue.

With a pair of tweezers or your fingers pluck the glue from the lash band. If the glue doesn’t remove easily add more alcohol, be care not to get too rough. Lastly take a spoolie and comb through the lash hairs before storing it in its casing.

Will False Lashes Damage My Real Lashes?

NO! Short answer lol. There are so many lash myths that needs to be canceled already. They are heavy, they won’t stick, they will damage your real lashes. UGH! A strip lash can not damage your real lashes if

  • You use lash glue and not gorilla glue or hair glue or something silly.
  • Remove the lash daily.
  • Sit the falsie above your natural lash, not on it.

How To Choose False Eyelashes

The first way to choose a lash is preference. Sure certain lashes look better with certain face shapes and eye shapes but if YOU don’t like the lash don’t buy it just because a google search says it will look good on you.

3D mink lashes come in different lengths, density’s, and styles. The lengths are short 12mm – 14mm, medium 15mm – 19mm, and long 20mm to 25mm. A density of light, airy, wispy, bold, or dramatic and lastly a style of cat eye, doll eye, open eye or natural.

PRO TIP: Long eyelashes make you look prettier.

Mink lashes are easy and low maintenance. They don’t need curling or mascara. They are light weight, won’t damage your real lashes and will enhance any makeup look. Mink are great for popping the eyes and looking beautiful with very little effort.

Keep Oily Skin Matte All Day

KiKi Carr

Oily skin is great for looking younger, not so great if you want a matte finish. Without taking the proper prep makeup may start off looking matte but as the day goes on will get greasy looking. Preventing, avoiding and stopping shiny face makeup is a flex. Period.

The best method to keep your face from getting oily throughout the day is to start with a good skin prep. Skin care is always the first line of defense. Although it is not possible to stop oily skin all together a good skin care routine definitely makes a world of a difference.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

Good makeup always begins and ends with a solid skincare routine. There is no makeup hack that can or will replace a proper skincare regimen. Target has excellent skin care for black skin. These products are extremely affordable and will help control oil all day.

Wash with a Hydrating Cleanser

Oily skin lacks sufficient moisture and over produces oil. It is important to not attempt to constantly strip the skin of excess oil but to add in more moisture. Using a hydrating cleanser like Cerave will help bring balance to the skin. This cleanser is not stripping and leaves the skin feeling light and fresh.

Tone with Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is the best toner for oily skin because it is pore constricting. Oily skin has larger pores. By constricting the opening of the pore less oil can get through to the surface of the skin. Witch hazel is all natural and has been used for centuries in skin care. Thayer’s is purified and will leave the skin visibly smoother.

Moisturize with an Oil Free Moisturizer

Oil is good for oily skin, not all but some. I recommend everyone use a face oil but they are especially helpful for oily skin and acne prone. Obviously using oil when going for the matte look is not the move. The Cerave Cream Moisturizer is perfect for anyone who wants a matte look.

It is not possible to completely stop our skin from producing oil. Constantly stripping the skin of its oil will cause the skin to produce more oil, increasing the chances of a break out. With the proper skin prep it is possible to stay matte throughout the day.

The Bobbi Brown face base doubles as a moisturizer and makeup primer. It contains Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane, Shea Butter, and Vitamins B, C, and E. Natural Hyperpigmentation Treatments

KiKi Carr

When we hear “all natural” we automatically assume safe. I hate to state the obvious but natural does not always mean safe just as chemical does not always mean unsafe.

Chemical exfoliates are all natural hyperpigmentation and dark spot treatments. Mandelic acid is derived from almonds, Glycolic acid sugarcane, Lactic acid milk and enzymes are derived from fruits.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

But I’m not gonna sit up here and act like I don’t know what you mean when you say “natural skincare”. You mean products that are not toxic, artificial, synthetic or contain harmful ingredients. I think we all expect our skin care to be safe for use, natural claims or not.

These days it is easy to find skin care that is cruelty free, vegan, natural or organic. Glow Recipe and Herbivore are examples of clean skin care brands. AVO Cosmetics is another all natural skincare brand.

AVO Cosmetics is homemade skin care for black skin and was developed by a black woman, me! The Clear Skin Kit is ideal for oily skin, acne, hyperpigmentation, and textured skin. The Rapid Dark Spot Corrector helps reduce the appearance of blemishes and promotes an even complexion.

Physical Exfoliators

If you want to completely avoid ingredients all together you can use a physical exfoliate. Keep in mind with physical exfoliates you control the pressure and it is important to handle facial skin with care.

Although scrubs contain ingredients they are also considered a physical exfoliate.

Chemical Exfoliates

Chemical exfoliates come in two forms, enzymes and acids. Both are incorporated in soaps, lotions, serums, masks, toners, and more.

  • Enzymes
    • Dissolve dead skin only.
  • AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)
    • Resurfaces all skin.

No matter if physical or chemical, exfoliation is an amazing and all natural way to achieve clear skin and an even skin tone. It is also the fastest way to remove dark spots.

Teami Matcha Green Tea Facial Scrub

Herbivore AHA Prism Exfoliating Serum

Hyperpigmentation Ingredients

Oily skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation. Oily skin often causes acne and acne leave blemishes. Removing acne scars takes time but it can be done. Here is a list of ingredients that fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

  • Vitamin C
  • Pineapple
  • Licorice Root
  • Kojic Acid
  • Mandelic Acid
  • Azelaic Acid
  • Black Soap

Although Glycolic and Lactic acid aren’t fading ingredients they are awesome treatments for hyperpigmentation. Glycolic acid is extremely universal! It helps correct many different skin conditions. Lactic acid resurfaces the outermost layer of skin which removes acne scars as oppose to fade them.

All natural treatments for dark spots can be physical or chemical. It is important to remember NOT to over exfoliate. Over exfoliation will lead to skin irritation and possibly more scarring. Exfoliation should be limited to 1 to 2 times a week, up to 3 times for oily skin and acne prone.
