How to Use Black Soap

The best way to use black soap is in conjunction with moisturizing skin products. Serums, creams, and moisturizers that contain ingredients like vitamin C and hyaluronic acid will help to maximize the results of black soap. Try using it two to three times a week as a deep cleanser and exfoliator. The cleanser can be used as part of either a morning or night routine.

 When to Use Black Soap

African black soap should be used as a step in your skin routine. It can be used as a daily cleanser. Using African black soap before other skincare products preps the skin ensuring it is clean which encourages deeper penetration and absorption of the beneficial ingredients in your serums, moisturizers, and other skin treatments.

How Long Will It Take Black Soap to Clear Skin

African black soap starts to work immediately due to its exfoliating properties. Exfoliation helps to prevent clogged pores and keeps the skin looking bright. The deep cleansing of the pores helps to balance oil by tightening the pores leaving the skin feeling fresh and balanced.

Keep Oily Skin Matte All Day

    KiKi Carr

Oily skin is great for looking younger, not so great if you want a matte finish. Without taking the proper prep makeup may start off looking matte but as the day goes on will get greasy looking. Preventing, avoiding and stopping shiny face makeup is a flex. Period.

The best method to keep your face from getting oily throughout the day is to start with a good skin prep. Skin care is always the first line of defense. Although it is not possible to stop oily skin all together a good skin care routine definitely makes a world of a difference.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

Good makeup always begins and ends with a solid skincare routine. There is no makeup hack that can or will replace a proper skincare regimen. Target has excellent skin care for black skin. These products are extremely affordable and will help control oil all day.

    Wash with a Hydrating Cleanser

Oily skin lacks sufficient moisture and over produces oil. It is important to not attempt to constantly strip the skin of excess oil but to add in more moisture. Using a hydrating cleanser like Cerave will help bring balance to the skin. This cleanser is not stripping and leaves the skin feeling light and fresh.

    Tone with Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is the best toner for oily skin because it is pore constricting. Oily skin has larger pores. By constricting the opening of the pore less oil can get through to the surface of the skin. Witch hazel is all natural and has been used for centuries in skin care. Thayer’s is purified and will leave the skin visibly smoother.

Moisturize with an Oil Free Moisturizer

Oil is good for oily skin, not all but some. I recommend everyone use a face oil but they are especially helpful for oily skin and acne prone. Obviously using oil when going for the matte look is not the move. The Cerave Cream Moisturizer is perfect for anyone who wants a matte look.

It is not possible to completely stop our skin from producing oil. Constantly stripping the skin of its oil will cause the skin to produce more oil, increasing the chances of a break out. With the proper skin prep it is possible to stay matte throughout the day.

    Natural Hyperpigmentation Treatments

    KiKi Carr

When we hear “all natural” we automatically assume safe. I hate to state the obvious but natural does not always mean safe just as chemical does not always mean unsafe.

Chemical exfoliates are all natural hyperpigmentation and dark spot treatments. Mandelic acid is derived from almonds, Glycolic acid sugarcane, Lactic acid milk and enzymes are derived from fruits.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

But I’m not gonna sit up here and act like I don’t know what you mean when you say “natural skincare”. You mean products that are not toxic, artificial, synthetic or contain harmful ingredients. I think we all expect our skin care to be safe for use, natural claims or not.

These days it is easy to find skin care that is cruelty free, vegan, natural or organic. Glow Recipe and Herbivore are examples of clean skin care brands. AVO Cosmetics is another all natural skincare brand.

AVO Cosmetics is homemade skin care for black skin and was developed by a black woman, me! The Clear Skin Kit is ideal for oily skin, acne, hyperpigmentation, and textured skin. The Rapid Dark Spot Corrector helps reduce the appearance of blemishes and promotes an even complexion.

    Physical Exfoliators

If you want to completely avoid ingredients all together you can use a physical exfoliate. Keep in mind with physical exfoliates you control the pressure and it is important to handle facial skin with care.

Although scrubs contain ingredients they are also considered a physical exfoliate.

    Province Apothecary Daily Dry Brush

    Hangsun Rotating Cleansing Brush

    Evridwear Exfoliating Nylon Gloves

    Chemical Exfoliates

Chemical exfoliates come in two forms, enzymes and acids. Both are incorporated in soaps, lotions, serums, masks, toners, and more.

    • Enzymes
      • Dissolve dead skin only.
    • AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)
      • Resurfaces all skin.

No matter if physical or chemical, exfoliation is an amazing and all natural way to achieve clear skin and an even skin tone. It is also the fastest way to remove dark spots.

Glow Recipe Guava Vitamin Dark Spot C Serum

Teami Matcha Green Tea Facial Scrub

    Herbivore AHA Prism Exfoliating Serum

    Hyperpigmentation Ingredients

Oily skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation. Oily skin often causes acne and acne leave blemishes. Removing acne scars takes time but it can be done. Here is a list of ingredients that fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

    • Vitamin C
    • Pineapple
    • Licorice Root
    • Kojic Acid
    • Mandelic Acid
    • Azelaic Acid
    • Black Soap

Although Glycolic and Lactic acid aren’t fading ingredients they are awesome treatments for hyperpigmentation. Glycolic acid is extremely universal! It helps correct many different skin conditions. Lactic acid resurfaces the outermost layer of skin which removes acne scars as oppose to fade them.

All natural treatments for dark spots can be physical or chemical. It is important to remember NOT to over exfoliate. Over exfoliation will lead to skin irritation and possibly more scarring. Exfoliation should be limited to 1 to 2 times a week, up to 3 times for oily skin and acne prone.

How to Get Flawless Skin Oily Acne Prone

Prep the skin for makeup. Start with a good cleanser and toner for oily skin. To get the glowy dewy look you can follow up with the Glow Recipe Watermelon Dew Drops. Next moisturize the skin. Cerave makes an amazing moisturizer! It is great for under makeup. It’s light weight and very matte. The final step is to conceal dark spots and BOOM! You’re done!

Looking good is not about spending a lot of money or using pounds of product on your face. Less is always more. When the skin has texture, using makeup won’t make it appear flat. What is doable is an even complexion. Acne or not, correcting uneven tones throughout the face makes a world of difference.

Flawless black skin that is oily acne prone is achieved with a good skin care regimen and a little makeup. Using a lot of makeup will not help the skin look flawless, smooth, or natural. If not properly removed, too much makeup can definitely worsen acne.

If you suffer from acne you are probably terrified to use petroleum jelly on your face. Petroleum jelly is thick and viscous! Most people attribute those traits to being pore clogging and assume it will cause break outs. However those are that very traits that actually help with acne.

Vaseline is the most popular brand of petroleum jelly. The house hold name Vaseline is so synonymous with the wonder jelly that many people use the terms interchangeably. However, Vaseline is a brand that sells petroleum jelly.

In fact, Vaseline is the number one selling brand of petroleum jelly. One reason Vaseline is more entrusted is because of the purification process. Vaseline filters its petroleum jelly 3 times, removing impurities and potentially harmful bi-products.

can vaseline get rid of acne

    What Causes Acne?

There are three main causes of acne. One cause is genetics. We all have different skin types. Acne prone skin is the oily skin type. Another cause is hormones. When hormones fluctuate most commonly we experience physical changes in our skin and hair. But the number one cause of acne is bacteria.

When there is a build up of oil it causes dead skin to stick to our skin which then creates a blockage in pores where bacteria grows and forms acne.

    What is Petroleum Jelly?

White petroleum jelly is a refined and purified product of heavy waxes and oils. It is considered an ointment and is non comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. The skin is able to absorb petroleum jelly, pores become clogged by blockages. White Petroleum Jelly surpasses the safety standards set by the FDA for use in food and cosmetics.

Why Does Petroleum Jelly Help with Acne?

Oily skin over produces oil. Instinctively, people strip the oil away which triggers the body to produce more oil. When petroleum jelly is applied to the skin, the body is not prompted to produce more oil.

Petroleum jelly is an emollient. Emollients are skin conditioners. Skin conditioners soothe the skin and are used to soften rough, dry, flaky skin.

Petroleum jelly forms an occlusive layer. Occlusive layers reduce water loss which is essential for acne. More water in the skin brings moisture. Moisture is essential to wound healing and countering the over production of oil. Occlusive layers keeps the skin protected and hydrated longer.

How to Use Petroleum Jelly for Clear Skin

Petroleum jelly should be the last step in a skin care routine. A basic skin care routine is to cleanse, tone, moisturize, and protect. During the day the protection should be a sunblock. At night protecting the skin means locking in moisturizing ingredients. This is especially beneficial when using expensive serums and eye creams.

After the skin has been cleansed and hydrating products applied, place a thin layer of petroleum jelly on the face. Petroleum jelly is a skin protectant helping to keep moisture in and the environment out.

Petroleum jelly is great for locking in moisture and forming a barrier to protect the skin. However clear skin starts with a thorough cleanse. Cleansing the skin is the most important part to keeping it clear. Especially when using an oil. If the skin is not thoroughly cleansed a build of of debris will possibly cause a form of contact dermatitis and certainly clog pores.
