Death to the White Flakes!

Ok! So as you may know or not know I big chopped last yr. & since then I felt, note the previous tense, like I haven’t been able to rock a flat twist out :-/ I mean, I rocked it before the bc all the time.. But since the bc I haven’t been able to get the definition I had previously achieved. One major difference between then and now is that my hair is heat free .. I have blown my hair out a total of 3 times & flat ironed it zero times lol .. & honestly I’m not planning to flat iron it.. Before big chopping I kept a flat iron in my head and it devastated my curl pattern.

This is my hair before the big chop .. My hair was freshly washed & had only conditioner in it. Constantly straightening it left me with loose stringy curls I was not feelin .. My hair wouldn’t fro if my life depended on it .. I’m talkin classic 1970’s fro.. The kind that will get you featured on natural hair pages πŸ˜‰πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘β€οΈ

This post big chop picture of me is after being in the water all day at my daughters pool party

And these are just two randoms also showing the curl pattern constant heat created

Now that my hair is heat free it’s firmer & prolly the closest it’s gonna get to the exact texture growing out my scalp. I do color my hair which slightly changes the properties & heat has touched it & will .. Which will begin to affect the curl pattern over time .. In my opinion .. Negatively .. Beauticians refer to this phenomenon as training your hair. Something I can totally attest to. Before big chopping, whn I first began to straighten my hair any heat or humidity would cause my hair to fro & frizz right back up .. I can remember the first time I straightened it … by the time I was finished it was in a fro lol. At some point it was holding the heat but still puffy. My cousin said I looked like one of the supremes πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ cuz it was straight, but not bone straight. It was still very much so, poofy. Eventually it had gotten to the point where it was “trained”. Bone straight with one pass thru of the ceramic flatiron. And it stayed straight! Through heat & humidity. In fact it looked so good many of my fellow Naturalistas questioned if I had gone back to the creamy crack.

In fact! It was so straight that it stayed straight even when water hit it 😱😱😱 now we all know that natural hair is to revert to its natural state once wet. Indeed it did not. IN FACT, at the end, when I washed my hair I could smell flat iron, and no flat irons were even on 😳 That’s when I knew I had irreversible, heat damage! πŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ˜– So I chopped it all off and threw a Dark & Lovely dye in it

This is my hair when I knew I had to cut it off

20131024-171140.jpg
I took a tour to see how it would look .. I’ve never been afraid to take a pair of scissors to my own head lol ..

20131024-171406.jpg
Finally .. I decided to go to a professional and have him cut it all off ..

20131024-181814.jpg
In doing so I learned a lot about my hair.. It’s just naturally different textures throughout my head. The back the sides the crown and the front .. All behaves differently. I find my prettiest most defined irresistible curls are in the back .. The crown is the longest part & the front & sides of my hair doesn’t coil as easily .. It’s almost like it grows out straighter .. Like the back is 4c but the front is a 3 or something lol. So if your experiencing this no worries, it’s … Natural πŸ˜‰
Mean time and in between time after the BC I got braids …

Now! Here we are!! Today!!!

20131024-190854.jpg
This is my hair after being freshly washed & conditioned. Big difference right! I saturated my hair with conditioner because I just touched up my roots two days ago so I’m building my moisture back up .. I think it was time for a touch up tho .. don’t you lol ..

20131024-191025.jpg
So!! Here we are at the purpose if this post! I finally found something that defined my flat twist! The Shea moisture line .. I can’t remember what was already in my hair but I re-wet it with my favorite moisturizer Sta-Sof-Fro and added my favorite products from the Shea Moisture line

20131024-191547.jpg
Flat twist came out SUPER defined & my hair would have given all life!! IF!!! It were not for the white flakes!!! πŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ˜– ugh!!! 😫 every natural knows the plague of the white flakes formed from either one product that’s not for u or a combo gone wrong! This definitely falls under the category combo gone wrong. I have used each product individually and never experienced the white flake plague. This time tho was a fail, kinda .. So I held my head high and went out into the world with white flakes all and up in throughout my head, lol .. Thank God I lived to fight another day πŸ˜‰

Tis The Season

Hey fellow bloggers! I had an interview with Sephora yesterday for a seasonal position as one of their beauty consultants. So I decided to bring you the look I rocked. Even tho it’s completely NOT what I was going for lol .. But I strutted my stuff anyhow. Let’s start with the hair!!
20131016-143210.jpg

This is the result of a Bantu Knot out using Shea Moistures Curl Enhancing Smoothie

20131016-133413.jpg
This style wasn’t a fresh style, meaning it wasn’t created on freshly washed hair. I still had other product in my hair from an old style .. it’s not practical for me to have to wash every time I need or want to style it. So all I did was dampen my hair with my favorite moisturizer. Shout out to my friend girl A. Green for puttin me up on this biz ness! Love it! Hey girl! πŸ˜πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

20131016-134401.jpg
I then added Shea moisture to each individual section of hair, twisted, and knotted! I would say I had about 25 Bantu knots in my head. After letting it set overnight this was the result after simply taking the knots out and un-twisting

20131016-134646.jpg
I loved the definition SO much I decided not to separate the twist, only to fluff. After all, I was headed to an interview and figured I should go for a more Refined look.

20131016-134850.jpg
I couldn’t decide if I wanted glasses or no glasses.

I ended up going with no specs lol. For the makeup .. Mary Kay of course!! I started with a nice clean moisturized face. I love the Timewise age fighting moisturizer for normal to dry skin. My foundation is the Timewise Luminous Foundation in Bronze 5, I use bronze 6 in the summer months, brows in soft black shaped with bronze 1 & 2 concealers, highlight bronze 1 concealer set with bronze 2 mineral foundation .. Mascara in ultimate mascara, black .. Liners are blk mechanical eyeliner & blk liquid liner on the lid.. Shadows emerald green ( tear duck ) , coal & expresso ( smoke ), cinnabar (transition) , crystalline ( lid color ), moonstone ( crease ), Gold Coast ( brow bone) .. Cheeks …golden copper blush & canyon gold bronzer .. I contoured with Timewise liquid foundation in bronze 7 and set my entire face with bronze 4 mineral foundation. The lips were created with MK’s rich fig & lined with the blk mechanical liner .. fushia was placed just in the center of the lip & I added some sheen with Mary Kay’s new @Play lip jelly in crushed plum 😁 all of these products can be found at www.marykay.com/mzkiki and if u love this look & would like to see more from me follow like subscribe comment ..
